Pre-treatment Advice

  • Please read the treatment descriptions to ascertain which Medik8 Facial will be suitable for your skin type or condition. However, if you are unsure then please do contact the salon on 01962 714444 and one of our therapists will be able to assist you.
  • Alternatively, you may book a 30-minute skin consultation with one of our Medik8 Professionals. We can then assess your skin, lifestyle, and any concerns regarding your skin and advise you on the best course of in-clinic and at-home treatments for you. We can also advise on whether you would also benefit from any of our other in-clinic treatments, such as HydraFacial, SkinPen microneedling, Medik8 Skin Peels or injectables.
  • Do not wax your face in the week before your chemical peel
  • Do not undergo any facial laser treatments, microneedling or other clinical procedures on your face in the 2 weeks before your facial
  • Wait 2 weeks after Botox and Fillers for your facial
  • Discontinue low strength retinol 48 hours before your facial and prescription-strength retinoids (e.g. Tretinoin) at least 2 weeks before your appointment.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure/sunbeds for 2 weeks before facial

Contra-indications

The following may prevent or restrict the treatment. We will conduct a full consultation at your first appointment but please contact us prior to your appointment if any of the following apply to you:

  • You are in your first 12 weeks of pregnancy (this will prevent treatment). After 12 weeks the facial can be performed. Please let us know before your facial so that we may adapt the treatment accordingly
  • If you have sunburned skin or have had excessive sun exposure in the previous 2 weeks
  • If you have used Roaccutane in the last 6 months
  • If you have used low strength retinol in the past 48 hours or prescription-strength topical Vitamin A (e.g. Tretinoin) in the past 2 weeks
  • If you have had facial laser treatments, microneedling or any other clinical treatment to your face in the past 2 weeks
  • If you have had Botox or Fillers in the past 2 weeks
  • If you have taken antibiotics in the past 10 days
  • Topical steroids within 1 week
  • Oral steroids within 1 month
  • If you have had cancer or are currently undergoing treatment for cancer please let us know prior to your treatment. If you have finished treatment, it will be possible to proceed with treatment with GP approval.
  • If you have waxed your face in the previous week
  • If you have warts in the area to be treated
  • If you have inflamed acne cysts
  • If you have any open cuts or sores in the area
  • If you have an active bacterial, viral (such as cold sores) or fungal infection
  • If you are experiencing significant immunosuppression
  • If you suffer from a collagen vascular disease
  • If you have an allergy to hair dye, aspirin, fruits or any Medik8 homecare products
  • Please advise if you have an allergy to ANY other products
  • If you suffer from epilepsy – a GP note required
  • If you suffer from diabetes. If you have controlled diabetes, we may be able to carry out the treatment with the doctor’s permission and a sensitivity test will be required
  • If you have severe asthma a doctor’s note will be required
  • If you have kidney or liver disease – a GP note may be required

Aftercare advice

  • Use only the products that are provided to you on the evening of your facial
  • We recommend avoiding make up and other products for 12-24 hours
  • Avoid chemical exfoliators (AHAs and BHAs) for 24 hours
  • To get the best results from your facial and optimum skin health, we recommend using a professional skin care regime comprising at least a cleanser, Vitamin C, sunscreen, and Vitamin A. Your therapist will advise on a recommended regime specifically tailored to you, at the end of your facial
  • Return for a facial every 4 to 6 weeks to maintain optimum skin health. Medik8 Facials can also be combined a treatment plan with Medik8 Skin Peels and other treatments such as HydraFacial, SkinPen Microneedling or injectables. Our therapist will give you more advice on these treatments
  • It is essential that you use sunscreen in the days following your treatment, and we recommend the use of sunscreen (minimum factor 30) every day of the year as this is the most effective way of maintaining skin health and preventing skin aging
