Pre-treatment Advice

  • Stop topical retinoids (retinol) at least 48 hours before treatment
  • Do not carry out facial waxing in the 1 weeks prior to your treatment
  • Do not have any other invasive treatments including injectables in the two weeks before your appointment.

Contra-indications

The following may prevent or restrict the treatment. We will conduct a full consultation at your first appointment but please contact us prior to your appointment if any of the following apply to you:

  • You are pregnant
  • You are under 18
  • You have a pacemaker or other implanted medical device
  • You have an acute allergic condition
  • You have a febrile disease or have a fever
  • You have uncontrolled blood pressure
  • You have a malignant tumour
  • You have heart disease or problems with the heart
  • You are prone to internal bleeding
  • You are prone to bone fractures (i.e. osteoporosis)
  • You have skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, sensitive skin, cosmetic dermatitis, sunburn, inflammation caused by acne or any other skin disease
  • You suffer from an autoimmune disorder such as Lupus
  • You have psoriasis or eczema or other skin condition in the treatment area
  • You have excessively dry skin
  • You have a history of cancer or skin cancer
  • You have diabetes
  • You take blood-thinning medication
  • You are taking Roaccutane or another prescription-strength vitamin A
  • You have epilepsy
  • You have had Botox or fillers or other invasive treatment in the last 2 weeks
  • You have localized skin injuries
  • You are taking steroids or using a steroid cream on the area
  • If you are under the care of a doctor, you should seek their advice before undergoing this treatment
  • You have metal, plastic, or silicone implants beneath the surface of the skin. If you have a brace or metal fillings you may experience sensation and treatment is therefore not recommended

Aftercare advice

Now that you have enjoyed your EMS facial here are a few tips for aftercare:

  • Avoid hot baths/showers and other heat treatments after a facial (sauna, steam room swimming pool)
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Keep your phone clean (this will avoid bacteria being transferred onto your face)
    Change your pillowcase regularly
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water post facial
  • Avoid the gym or vigorous exercise for 24 hours after having a facial
  • Return for repeat procedures in accordance with your therapist’s advice
  • Speak to your practitioner regarding further treatments including courses in EMS, they will also be able to recommend products that will be most suitable for you
