Dermaplaning FAQs

Am I suitable for Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning cannot be carried out on clients who have the following:

  • Diabetes that is not being controlled Cancer
  • Herpes Simplex (cold sores)v
  • Sunburn or windburn
  • Open, inflamed or infected skin Impetigo
  • Accutane or Isotretinoin use within the last 6 monthsv
  • Chemical peel or laser within the last 5 days
  • Retinol use within last 5 days
  • Botox/fillers within the last 4 weeks
  • Blood thinners such as Aspirin, St John’s Wort or Warfarin
Dermplaning is entirely painless and the whole treatment should be a relaxing experience.

Your hair will grow back following dermaplaning, but it will just look like it did before you had the treatment. The blade simply cuts the ends of the vellous hairs.

As the follicles are not affected by the treatment it is not scientifically possible for the structure of the hair to be affected.

The Dermalux Flex uses unique combinations of clinically proven Blue, Red and Near Infrared wavelengths of light to boost collagen, increase hydration, calm redness and irritation and blitz blemish-causing bacteria.

As the light triggers a whole cascade of skin-enhancing processes, the benefits continue even after the treatment has finished.

There is no downtime so you can continue with normal day to day activities.
  • Avoid sun exposure/burns 24 hours prior to treatment
  • Discontinue use of topical retinoids at least 5 days before your dermaplaning treatment.
  • Avoid Isotretinoin or Accutane 6 months prior to treatment

You can have Dermaplaning every 3-4 weeks. By treating at this distance apart we can remove 2-3 weeks’ worth of dead skin cells at a time.

This skin will then turn over at its normal cycle of 28-30 days to renew.

  • You can wear make-up immediately afterwards; however, we would advise you to wait until the following day
  • It is VERY important to wear SPF (as you should every day).
  • A treatment that removes the top layer of dead skin will make your skin more sun-sensitive and prone to pigmentation.
  • Avoid heat treatments for the next 24 hours
  • Follow a good skincare routine – be sure to speak to us about our Medik8 range of professional skincare.
  • By removing the top layer of skin you are allowing your skin to increase the absorption of topically applied products by up to 60%
  • Your next treatment should be no sooner than 3 weeks’ time

If you are following a good skin care programme then a course of 4-6 treatments is recommended or regular monthly treatments would be great for your skin.
